Summer is coming – make your own Ice cream

May 17, 2015

Afer the horrible summer we had in 2014, I’m really hoping for a lovely and hot summer for 2015. And yes, last week summer visited us briefly. And to make things even better we had Thursday off because of a bank Holiday. I even went a step further and booked Friday off. 4 day weekend! Yay!

So, on Thursday I went on a walk in Bern with a friend. It was lovely and hot. We decided to stop off at the Hotel Innere Enge for Ice Cream. I love this hotel. They have a café in the park of the Hotel, where they sell Italian Ice cream.

I had yoghurt and coffee flavours. It was unbelievable. Creamy and delicious and yes full of calories I’m sure. And also not too expensive. I paid sFr. 3.90 for 2 scoops.

On Friday morning, I decided to come up with my own version. Low calorie and healthy. Ooh, I do need to point out, by this point summer had taken deserted us again. It was pouring with rain and the temperature had dropped from 30 degrees C to just 4 degrees.

Easy peasy. Just three ingridients. Bananas, Greek yoghurt and blueberries.

Just put everything in a bowl or jug and mix it together.

Pour into ice cream moulds. These I bought at Ikea and they were really cheap. But it doesn’t matter if you don’t have any moulds. Just pour them into a container, that can go into the freezer.

I took the ice creams out after about 5 hours, and I must say I am very pleased with my first attempt. The greek yoghurt makes the ice cream very creamy. Plus I love the fact, that some of the blueberries stayed whole. I am really looking forward to trying out different versions of this recipe. The next one will be chocolate mint. I will post the results here.

So, go on enjoy a healthy ice cream.
